What If There Was A Way To Sell Your Way To Freedom?
Although there are many of us who enjoy the structure, routine and security of having a job, there are many of us who would do nearly anything to escape the rigidity and mandatory time constraints of the '9-5'. In 2017, I climbed into my brand new Porsche 911 and raced back to my condo nestled away on the 12th floor atop the Marina Palms Yacht Club in Miami. I walked to the balcony and took a deep breath while enjoying the sun shining on my face. I had finally achieved a goal of mine: freedom.
Nobody could tell me what to do, where to be, where to go, when to be there, how long I should stay... I was 100% independent and in full control of what to do. This was a mind-boggling realization and an accomplishment I that I am still proud of to this day.
Before I share with you the 10-Step plan to buying your freedom, I want to tell you that freedom comes with far more responsibilities than what Instagram 'entrepreneurs' show you on their feeds. Starting 3 companies from scratch over the last 3 years has been both deeply frustrating and unbelievably exciting - but - I've been free to create these experiences in my life, on my own terms. Here's my 10-Step Plan
Step 1: Find a sales job where you can make a minimum of $150,000 per year.
If you haven't earned six figures before, this may seem like a tall task. However, there are a plethora of sales jobs and opportunities that you can use as a vehicle to make more money. Find the right sales job here. An annual income of $150,000 or more will allow you to start saving a significant amount of your earnings (if you're disciplined enough to live well below your means!) that you can use for your big day. Your lifestyle doesn't have to change just because your income does, especially if freedom is your goal.
Step 2: Commit to being the best at whatever you do.
Once you're in the right vehicle, make a commitment to be the best. Work harder than those around you, acquire the new skills you need to be successful and discipline yourself to do the things you don't want to do. Remember, the $150,000 income target is a minimum target, the real goal should be to earn much more than that.
Step 3: Shorten the learning curve and learn from others.
They say a smart man will learn from his own mistakes and a wise man will learn from the mistakes of others. You don't need to learn how to do things the hard way or rely on trial and error to become great at what you do. Find mentors, read books and make regular investments in yourself so you can learn better ways to approach your goals. Step 4: Search for resources that are relevant to achieving your goals.
Stop wasting time, money, attention and energy into activities that don't directly contribute to the attainment of your goals. Throw out your Xbox, sell your Playstation 5, cancel Netflix and eliminate the distractions. After doing that, you'll be able to identify the activities that you should be doing and immerse yourself into the right opportunities.
Step 5: Invest in those resources, activities and opportunities.
Although quality advice, information and coaching will cost money, it can and will be the best investment you make. New results always require new skills, strategies and approaches. If you don't make any investments along the way, you won't make yourself more valuable and will only limit your earning potential while simultaneously diminishing your value in the marketplace. Step 6: Apply what you learn.
It's very easy to underestimate new information, strategies and approaches or to challenge if they will truly be useful to you - but don't! Take the advice from those you receive it from and implement it. Everyone can listen to good advice, very few will execute.
Step 7: Work hard and save for your big day.
As much as we hate to admit it, there is no such thing as an 'overnight success' - and unfortunately - you probably won't be the exception. You're going to have to repeat steps 2-7 for several years and remain disciplined to do the things you don't want to do. If you can continue to work hard and live below your means, you'll soon accumulate the money and skill set you'll need to claim your independence and defend it.
Step 8: Stop trading time for money.
Wealthy and affluent people are able to earn money without being 'clocked in'. The point of achieving 'freedom' is being able to earn a living without having to exchange time for it. Salespeople can leverage social media, software tools and other resources to bolster their results without necessarily sitting at their desk 'working'. Step 9: Start trading time for money.
Outsource and delegate any wasteful tasks or activities that costs you time. Things like cooking, doing laundry or cleaning your house do nothing but cost you time. If you're in the right sales role, you should easily be able to create more income than it costs to hire someone to do these tasks for you. For instance: if you're great at pitching deals and closing, you should consider hiring someone to make your cold calls for you so that you can spend more time executing and using your valuable skills to make more money.
Step 10: Continue working hard and build your empire.
Freedom isn't free. They say that success is never earned, it is rented - and that rent is due everyday. That's true. The day that you purchase your freedom is the day that the real work starts. You'll have to create your own way of producing income and providing value to others. This may sound a bit scary, but the good news is that you can repeat steps 3-10 and create a life on your own terms - if you're willing to work for it.
